World Book Day: One in six adults have poor literacy skills

As the annual World Book Day event rolls around, so to has the statistic that in England one in six adults have poor literacy skills.

The World Book Day celebration is primarily aimed at promoting reading to children, and sees schools take part in dress up events, and children receiving free book tokens.


However, should more be done to promote reading amongst adults?


Bookseller at Waterstones, Jane Pickering, said: "It's giving lots of different generations the chance to get involved in reading and then share books from their generation as well.


"It's about fostering the classic children's books as well as modern ones today."


The theme for this year's World Book Day was 'reading is power' to inspire young people, and the ultimate aim of the charity is to give every child a book.


We've been finding out what the people of Lincoln have been reading.
